Interceptor’s M-1 ignition interlock system is comprised of a Breath Test Module, a Car Control Module, and a Positive Identification Module. Once installed in your vehicle, the M-1 operates as follows:

3. Within 20 seconds you will hear another voice prompt “please provide a sample,” then 2 short beeps. Simply press the Breath Test Module against your lips, and exhale for 6 seconds.

4. At the beginning of the exhale, and for the duration of the breath test, you will hear a steady tone. This tone assures you of a proper breath sample. At the end of the breath test, you will hear two more tones indicating that the breath sample has been completed. If the breath test is not correct, you will hear “invalid sample, please try again.” However, if the breath sample is accepted and your breath alcohol concentration (BAC) is okay, you will hear “You may start the vehicle.”

5. Turn your ignition key to start, and drive away. Keep in mind that throughout your drive at random intervals, you will be asked to provide additional breath samples. These breath samples are administered by you in the same fashion as the start sequence. It’s that simple!

Q: As a probationer, how is my auto insurance affected?
A: Insurance companies can “load” (surcharge) a policy premium as much as 400% of the original cost of your auto insurance for 5 years once a person is convicted of a Drunk Driving offense, whether it is a first time conviction or a repeat offense.

Example: Original policy premium - prior to a DWI conviction $950
“Loaded” (surcharged) premium - $3,800 ($950 x 400%) each year, for 5 years, f or a total of $19,000.00 versus $4,750.00 (a total difference of almost $15,000.00) Which would you rather pay?

Q: Can I reduce the surcharges on my auto insurance?
A: Yes, Absolutely! Insurance companies would prefer to reduce their exposure to a DWI accident, rather than charge additional premiums.
